About
During the course, participants will attend an intensive series of short lectures focused on the technical aspects of several techniques of neurovascular surgery, including extracranial-intracranial bypass surgery (STA-MCA bypass), carotid endarterectomy (CEA), and strategies to contend with premature rupture during clipping surgery (Clipping). After the break, participants will have the opportunity to practice their skills under supervision (5 participants/1 tutor/station) on 3 different simulators, for STA-MCA, CEA, and Clipping. Hands-on sessions will continue from 11:00 AM to 17:15 PM for 6 hours.
Aims of the course
The objective of this course is to educate the participants in the underlying science, and the technical and practical aspects of some of the most common neurovascular surgical techniques, including STA-MCA anastomosis, carotid endarterectomy, and aneurysm clipping. The course is mainly intended for trainee neurosurgeons and will provide in depth and up to date knowledge of vascular neurosurgical techniques. These techniques offer both neurovascular and brain tumor surgeons the opportunity to master safe and accurate surgical treatments for patients with arterial diseases. In particular, these powerful surgical techniques are not widely used by vascular surgeons in many countries other than Japan.
Who should attend?
The course is designed for neurosurgeons interested in neurovascular surgery. No prior microvascular experience is required but basic knowledge of the vascular anatomy and physiology is expected. All lectures, workshops, and course materials will be in English.
